A SUSPENDED PUBLIC BENCH

An installation that denounces the lack of public spaces in Beirut

An installation that denounces the lack of public spaces in Beirut. In the context of a conference held by Gaia heritage in “la Grande Brasserie du Levant” that gathered creative people to come up with strategies to preserve their unique urban legacy and reinforce their heritage, ATELIER130 came up with this installation that denounces the lack of public spaces in Beirut.  A130 reproduced a concrete public bench and hung it from the ceiling, transforming what is meant to be a stable lasting object to an unstable swing. In addition to that, A130 made the bench disappear in a pool of smoke, the same way the access to public spaces is disappearing in Beirut. The space is confined within a box to emphasize the deceiving limits of the potential expansion of public spaces.
